all I can say is its about damn time they really started looking at this.

no matter what side of the fence your on - 'big oil is evil and corrupt and just sucking away at us for our money" OR " big oil got 'lucky' in a way due to war at our biggest oil supplier and made big bucks".. either side has to agree its getting outrageous!! (prices). This isn't a thread to argue either side of that subject (please lol)

favorite quote from the story.

"When Exxon Mobil can realize billions of dollars of profits at the expense of millions of American families, it's time to step up" - Sen. Richard Durbin

I thought that line just meant that oil companies are gouging prices anytime a military conflict arises simply based on media focus.

Oh I read

due to war at our biggest oil supplier

and figured he meant the war with Iraq. In fact Iraq is not the top oil supplier to the United States, Canada is.

Canada has that petroleum soaked soil I saw about on 60 Minutes, they were talking crazy talk like enough oil for the next hundred years.

However, they never said oil in the next hundred years wouldn't be fantastically expensive either heh.

Gasoline is still pretty cheap when adjusted for inflation, compared to 20, 30 years ago. The rapid rise in price is what shocks people. A 50 cent per gallon increase sounds huge, but if you really compare the cost of the increase vs your income it is really quite a small sum.

Canada has a shit pile of oil, only crap thing is its traded on the open market so we still have to pay $1.10 a Litre (1 US gallon = 3.7854118 litres).

Good thing I have that 100L tank for my 5.7LTR Hemi.

And I thought South Park: The Movie was just fiction, when it was really an insightful prediction of the future.

Speeches will be made, hearings will be conducted, nothing of significance will happen. Those with the power and money will manipulate the public relations to quell the outcry without giving up much, if anything. The fundamental problem is that the situation is too complex for a simple answer. Just go see the movie Syriana if you want an example. The oil companies effectively use this complicated situation to create confusion and, ultimately, inaction.

Hmm part of the reason milk prices went up tho was rising fuel costs. Milk is heavy and takes up a lot of space, so transporting it can be expensive.
Dunno maybe there was some opportunistic gouging there too /shrug.

What I heard on news was, an investigation was to begin looking into the allegations that major oil companies conspired with each other to keep SUPPLY down so the damand was high and it drove the prices up. I don't know any details, just what I heard.
