Rumi's Humanity

Postby bill » Thu Sep 09, 2004 1:05 pm

Sologak wrote:Rumi incites us to become, as he is, the sky and the cloud showering grace and blessing upon the human race. He says:

Come to the sky, develop into clouds and discharge rain
A downpipe discharges water too, but in vain
While the rain water brings many colors to the garden
The downpipe invites the neighbors to quarrel

Is it fair then to attempt in vain to make this heavenly element swoop down from high heaven to the earthly low ground merely to be imprisoned in a tiny cage?

What is the essence of Rumi's humanity? He says:

My life may be summed up In three phrases
I was raw
I matured
Then I burned .

While at Black Rock City, I actually saw someone perform this with a trio and they sang it in its original dialect.

I was one of few who recognized it and it made my entire week.

Not worthy of its own post but something I found today while "working":

Martin Luther King Jr. wrote:"Peaceful ends can only be reached through peaceful means. The noblest goal is not conquest of enemies but reconciliation with adversaries." Dr. Martin Luther King.

Mantra

Postby Conan » Mon Oct 25, 2004 4:29 pm

I guess my mantra would be to;

Crush you enemies

See them driven before you

And to hear the lamentation of the women!

I actually have whole text files on my Palm Pilot filled with Rumi, Richard Brautigan, and others. My favorite Rumi piece is:

Let the lover be disgraceful, crazy,
absentminded. Someone sober
will worry about things going badly.
Let the lover be.

It's hard to remember that this is someone who lived, what seven centuries ago?

One should remember the heavens are only high because of the earthly low ground. Is it fair? No.

It is as it is, because it is.

Where is Sologak's original post?
I'm helping, I'm helping you...
