pulling casters

Postby Groogle - Czaemon » Sun Jun 26, 2005 1:22 am

confession.

I have absolutely no idea how to split casters without having stonewall to FD through casts. I'm spoiled 8(

I wont have time to finish stonewall on this char for a while, so, like, how to you split unlullable casters without sw, and without dying?

I am assuming you would be a monk no?

Usually attempting to split casters with my Necro has resulted in death, but I have far less HP than a monk. Usually the key to it is to attempt the FD right after you have been casted on, and hope the 2nd / 3rd mob isnt in the process of casting on you.

It is very difficult in my experience for FD pullers to split / pull casters just cause the stupid things interrupt your FD. That and my pet usually gets wiped. Shouldnt happen to much more now that I have pet disc, but I have no encountered any caster mobs or pulling roles since I recieved that AA.

Using LoS makes pulling casters a lot easier.

aka, when you agro caster mobs, and they decide to start casting a spell, they'll stand there like idiots until their spell finishes. This buys you some time to run around behind an obstical like a wall/pillar/tree/corner/rock/whatever if there's one nearby and get out of their line of sight.

The first spell they cast will still land no matter what, but to get another one off you have to be in their LoS, so they'll run for you, pathing them away from their origin and giving you time to safely fd without fear of interupts. If they get too close and start casting again, wait til the second spell hits before you fd, or else fd will break. Pray to god that they don't both decide to give up and wander back to their origin at the same time. Camera angles and that handy-dandy mouse wheel scroll kick ass for this.

Also, it seems that using throwing weapons will increase the chance for both mobs to agro. Sometimes you can get them to split cleanly and easily just by creeping up to a mob until you're in the very edge of its agro radius. Then hopefuly you've got something to use to get out of its LoS so it runs back to camp without stopping to cast on you.

Basicaly, splitting unlullable casters is a bitch, and without stonewall 5 and high resists the best tool I know of is patience.

really? i like pulling casters. its cake. just wait for the first rounds of "nukes" to land and start counting back from 5. you'll see the 2nd start to come and you just gotta be quick in there.

granted my cast time on FD actually helps me with timing. but obstacles are $$.
but my normal 9k hp grouping might help with that =P

Angyish, you're not a caster, you're a tank with spells!
Good scoop on the line of sight tactic, Uilea.
Could someone tell me what stonewall is please? (I'm assuming a nickname for an AA?)
Thanks,

Stonewall gives a chance for spells to not break FD.

Cool, i figured that much out of the context. I was wondering if it's an AA, and it's actual name.

Smart way to split casters- have ranger run in and snare mob, ranger runs off and dies(given), when unsnared mobs reset to spawn monk goes in and tags out the snared mob :thumbup

Trull

sk's i think have it easier splitting casters using snare, harmsheild and the ability to have 3 fd's available, using the line of sight and surrounding landscape to your advantage is gonna be a plus as well.

I can't stress it enough, line of sight =P

Oh, and always have full resist buffs if you can get them.

If all else fails, work with another monk or another character, makes splitting so much easier.

And be ready to die, alot.
