EQ2

Postby Goofydoofy » Fri Oct 08, 2004 6:16 pm

I won't reward them for leaving me behind. I'm not going to buy EQ2 and be ignored in one. If I go to some place to eat and the food sucks, I don't go back just because I hear they have something else that is good. If it sucked once, it sucked and I'm done. I don't like getting burned twice.

I imagine those that switch, even though EQ2 graphics may be superior, will be back at some point even if part time. Until EQ2 gets all the bugs worked out (EQ2 will have bugs?? SHOCK!!!) and gets guilds formed and a lot of people .. for some that may be too desolate, social-wise. But then again hehe .. thats just IMO .. I usually resist changes once I'm into something and like it. i.e. I refused to goto Windows95 from Windows 3.11 for quite a while, and now I REFUSE to use the spyware, ahem .. I mean OS Windows XP .. :P

I see where you're coming from Worff. I don't think it will take as long as you think for the EQ2 world to populate, but that's of course IMO. I know that for those that like to explore new things and those more casual players, EQ2 will be a nice change. I predict a big surge into EQ2, and then a small amount moving back to EQ1 to go back to the hardcore raid format. Just a theory.

On the tech issue, I don't think EQ2 will have more bugs, but it will most likely have as many. So from there, play style and system speed will be big factors for a lot of people.

On a totally different note... If you go to EQ2, will you play the same type of charactor? In other words, if you were a melee class here will you try out a caster there? Vice Versa?

Yeah I admit it does have it's appeal. I may try it out on a buddy's acct first .. and if EQ1 becomes deserted I would switch then of course :) It feels so weird though the thought of abandoning toons we spent so much time on and have so much history with... if someone at Sony was reading this they'd probably say "resistance... is futile!!" and they may be right.. but I'm gonna resist for now.

I do expect a big explosion of population towards EQ2 at first.. a lot of people paying for both EQ1 and EQ2.. and probably some 2-worlding (haha a new term is born) with a lot of chatter in EQ1 about how cool EQ2 is LOL. I bet many will either come back or play both for quite a while.. too much to lose it seems, although those that have been at "the top" for a while (EP Guilds) may be more inclined to seek "new content" hehe.

"2-worlding"?

Hmm, EQ2 will still be set in Norrath, just 500 years into the future.

So ... technically, shouldn't we call it two-timing? LOL :razz

Lag??

Postby Shimmere » Sun Oct 10, 2004 1:56 am

Hmmm. Eq 2 will lag your computer, hmm. Eq1 lags my computer and I have a decent graphic card... I'm guessing with Eq2 ... not only will I have lag... but I can see the smoke pouring from the tower and behind the monitor... the screen flickering ... shutting off... and on the black screen in big bold flashing letters - ERROR, ERROR, ERROR... sirens ringing from my speakers. And finally, my computer melts into the floor and the computer desk. Lag? I think there's going to be a lot more than just lag =)

LOL Shim do you have all the luclin models enabled? I have some on but I still use old world models on about half the races / sexes and it saves a lot of lag especially on raids and in PoK .. hell if I re-enabled them all I prolly wouldnt recognize anyone LOL. Just enable all the female elvish races .. thats all ya need /smirk

After Beta testing for awhile and looking at this poll as of late, I think there is more leaving EQ either for WoW or EQ2 than you think. Morty and I spoke to many people while we were testing and it was amazing to hear how many people were planning on jumping ship and not even telling there guilds there leaving. I assume they didn't want to burn any bridges or be frowned upon by there peers.

Of course this is a guess only, but IMO you'll see about 20% of the population go immediately or with in the first two weeks of release. Another 20% when WoW is released and another 40-50% migrate over the next 6months to a year. I also think you'll see guilds like CC, triality and AD eventually having to merge due to the number of people they need for flags etc... I also think that you'll see the merging of servers as the population dwindles.

Oh and as of this post:

well eventually we know that we will see server mergers in EQ somewhere in the lifecycle.

Heh - I just hope that we get at least a little bit of life left in TF before we have to merge with other guilds ourselves if we can't get lucky enough to be a guild that can get the leftovers from other guilds.

I know I have a preorder for EQ2 in right now, but I don't know that I am interested in starting just this week anyways. I got a fear raid Tuesday and hopefully a Vulak Ring Sat!

Yeah I'm a little concerned about this. We've had a couple tough days recently regarding raid numbers and if the poll above is an indicator it could become worse.

Not to say this is whats affecting TF now..but i wouldnt be surprised if there are a bunch of people taking a short break right now before they start in on the next game either WoW or EQ2.

I think your numbers are about right, Guardrail. What I am curious to see is how many come back to EQ1 in a few months.

It seems every year there is an EQ1 killer coming out. Dark Age of Camelot, Anarchy Online, Star Wars Galaxies, City of Heroes, "Final" Fantasy MCMLXXVII were all supposed to be the death of EQ1. None of them have really done that.

What EQ1 has that will take WoW or EQ2 years to equal is content. If people play WoW or EQ2 and a month or two later have "finished" it what will they do?

I have not played WoW or EQ2 yet. I plan on getting EQ2 sometime this week. Both sound interesting, but EQ2 appeals more to me since I am familiar with the lore of Everquest. WoW I will wait and see before I buy it. From what I have read WoW seems almost too easy to level up. I would rather have it take 5 or 6 months to level up rather than a 3 week grind to max level.
