Wow this is a sad story, he was a person educating children and adults around the world about animals and the wild. It's also sad because he left behind a wife, 8 year old daughter and his 2 year old son. His death was pretty untimely and seemed like bad luck, a sting ray spine into the heart .
That was my first thought too Arie was I expected it to be something different than a stingray that did ol' Steve in. I feel bad for his wife and kids who survived him, as I do for any fam that loses someone suddenly like that :(
He did more for conservation than most people realize
Reading the 3,000 or so comments on news.au is really bumming me out, I don't think I've been this upset by a celebrity death ever. I used to watch him every morning
Yeah Eub I know. Apparently he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and closer to the ray than he should have been, and it turned out badly for him when it struck defensivley. Any other place on his body and it wouldn't have been fatal, but it collapsed his left lung and stopped his heart almost instantly.
The worst part is it got caught on film, which I really hope doesn't leak out of respect to his family.
