Democracy Thoughts

Postby Areo » Fri Oct 05, 2007 9:40 am

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government."

"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury."

"From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.”

1. from bondage to spiritual faith;
2. from spiritual faith to great courage;
3. from courage to liberty;
4. from liberty to abundance;
5. from abundance to complacency;
6. from complacency to apathy;
7. from apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage"

2000 Presidential election:

Number of States won by:
Gore: 20
Bush: 30

Square miles of land won by:
Gore: 580,000
Bush: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by:
Gore: 127 million
Bush: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Gore: 6.5
Bush: 4.1

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million illegals and they vote, then I feel like we slipped even farther down this path.

Pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

* Edit: Removed some incorrect statistics and incorrectly quoted individuals, not deleting the thread as it still, I beleive, is something to think about.

I am wondering why nobody has killed George Bush yet. Boggles my mind.

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

This person has some funny numbers.

http://www.govspot.com/know/welfare.htm -- only 2% of americans received direct governmental assistance (welfare) in september of 2000.

about 12% of the population received food stamps in any given month of 2000 -- http://www.fns.usda.gov/fsp/faqs.htm#24 Moreover, 51% of food stamp participants are children. food stamp benefits max at something like $125 a person a month.

about 18% of the population is on medicaid. Medicaid spending averages like $3500 per person enrolled.

those are the three large groups I can think of, and have considerable overlap in terms of who they cover. Moreover, I'm not at all sure that you can legitimately say receiving a maximum benefit of $125 a month makes someone "dependent." most numbers that I've heard -- even from antiimmigration and antiwelfare groups -- is that something like 20% of the population receives federal governmental assistance.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million illegals and they vote, then I feel like we slipped even farther down this path.

This doesn't make sense. Do you know how many illegals receive governmental assistance? I don't have a firm number offhand -- but I'm going to venture a guess that not very many bloody illegals qualify for governmental assistance of any form, except for emergency medical care and public schooling for their kids (which are, for the record, not illegals.)

http://www.nilc.org/immspbs/research/im ... 6-9-12.pdf

so -- illegals use the public resources they qualify for (which is not many) at a rate lower than legals.

http://caimmigrant.org/repository/wp-co ... 070620.pdf
the above is a report by the council of economic advisors of theoffice of the president (ie, bushes economic advisors) stating that immigration -- legal and not -- has a net positive financial contribution to the US.

It's absurd to state that Gore's powerbase rests in people "living off government welfare."

by the way, the quote from "Professor Tyler" is completely fabricated. The Professor Olson cited as having written this denies vehemently having anything to do with it. The murder rates are also wrong. If I had googled the name beforehand I wouldn't have bothered typing up such a long reply; it's a fabricated piece of propaganda.

The professor's bio at the site of his law school can be found at http://www.hamline.edu/law/professors/joseph_olson.html wherein he explicitly disclaims any association with this.
