Final Poll for Alt/Box Bidding Cap(Bidding cap changed to 20

Postby bill » Tue Sep 05, 2006 4:11 pm

Of the above choices, if you select the third option, please post what the value below 20 should be. I can easily tally up the value that wins, but I don't think it makes any sense to give all 19 values their own poll option space.

This will determine whether the cap remains at 50, or becomes 20 or lower.

This poll will end at 5pm on 9/12/06.

Never have I been more proud of Dran for not posting a there should be no limit and a separate keep 50 cap. because those two categories would split their vote again.

copy/pasting my post from the last thread

-----

To expand on what Bill said, the way I see it, the way were raiding you can earn 20 dkp in probably a week if you went to every raid. If the cap was 20-25ish then yeah, mains would have a fighting chance over alts/boxes. The majority of our loot is going for under that, especially in time. So alts/boxes would still be able to scoop up loot cheaply but if a main really wanted/needed something it would be theirs, and they would only need to raid for about a week to beat out on alt on that. Keep in mind that a time bp went for 20 dkp to an alt last time raid. A piece of Quarm loot went to an alt, for 20 dkp. 28 pieces of loot, on one raid, went for under 20 dkp. You really can get prime loot for not that much dkp.

Most of our members are suprisingly reserved and courteous to mains when bidding with alts but frankly I got steamed the few times I've seen an alt get loot right at the 50 dkp cap. Especially when I know that it's an alt/box who basically just sits around and does nothing on raids and is rarely played except for raids. Them getting a prime piece of loot over a main was just dumb, and lowering the cap would prevent that.

On top of that the 50 cap is way too high because not much loot is going that high anymore. Not many people are willing to bid 30/35/40 on stuff, much less 50, so right now the cap doesnt serve much purpose.

edit: ok i sorted through dkp, here's a breakdown of the last week's loots (minus Inktu'ta since it hasnt been posted yet)

Loots total: 48
Loots under 20 dkp: 43
Loots going to alts/boxes: 9

Right now only 11% of all loot is going for 20+ and ~19% of that loot is going to alts/boxes. Lowering the cap would make the numbers more in tune with what loot is currently going for. So no one gets screwed and everyone is happy, and prime loot can be ensured to go to mains first.

So what you are suggesting Fnord is that if there are say 10 mages in the raid, but only 2 tanks, that Drannor should drop Drannor, and play Waystin, but earn no dkp for it while say the other tank is Jumjam, or Truran, and they are earning dkp? That would really encourage him to change to the needed class wouldn't it.

not gonna copy and post mine cuz im lazy so.

what uilea said.

and deen, fnord posted his reasons for why he thinks it should be only mains on the other thread. while I or you might not agree with him, he's still allowed to throw in his opinion. And in most guilds, alts and boxes don't get loot except rot. So he's not alone in his line of thinking.

The beauty of TF is that we are almost too forgiving on pretty much everything. The officers and Drannor make HUGE efforts to accomidate a mixture of hardcore raiders / softcore raiders/ once a weekers / non raiders / boxes / alts / mains / and somehow it all works.

Fnord feels that if we need to pull a tank out of our pocket, the event should be skipped for one we don't need to do that for. Which is an entirely acceptable philosophy, but it is one I do not share. We each have an equal number of votes however.

As do each of you. The only time your vote isn't counting here is when you don't cast it. Are you tired of hearing me yell at you to vote yet?

Make with the voting! hehe

from past polls / votes / constant TF trends, this one looks like open and shut as of right now.
