Bidding

Postby Goofydoofy » Mon Jan 03, 2005 1:31 pm

As for LDs. It has been stated before. We won't be waiting for LDs on bidding or moving a raid. LD is a personal problem you need to resolve on your end. It can't be used as a reason why your now dead when you got back on or you missed the loot you know you would have won.

If you die, you'll get rezzed when able. Don't count on it happening anytime before the raid is over. If you miss the loot bidding, oh well. We can't worry about how your ISP is working or if your power goes out. Shit happens and if you can't be there when everybody else is, oh well. Chances are we will hit that target again and again and your chance will arise once again.

The only time a raid will wait is when the raid leader goes LD. I'd say after 10 minutes without a raid leader returning, the raid is either called or somebody finishes it up and then the same rules apply.

we had a poll using our old bid system of closed bidding got slam dunked for auctions.

I believe I was trying to say "we had a poll for or against our old bid system and closed bidding got slam dunked in favor of auctions. "

you got your point across, I just laughed at the slam dunking reference.

Made a funny mental image in my head of two teams of basketball players from TF that were on either camp and picturing someone like Goofy slam-dunking open bids over someone else....I need some sleep.....nothing like gambling in connecticut for 8 hours until 3am after 4 days in manhattan.....still haven't slept since I got back from the Casino this morning at 5am ><

i think closed and open bidding all depends on how much dkp you have really..like goofy said he has a billion points so he could pretty much bid and win on all loots for like 4 raids even..because he knows he'll win in open bidding(not that he would) and then like ppl who don't have alot of points could still have a good chance on it with closed bidding..i just don't like spending 20 minutes for lootz..makes me want to go back to god looting heh

GOD Looting

Postby Goofydoofy » Mon Jan 03, 2005 5:09 pm

If we went back to GOD looting, nobody would get anything. Nistari gets it all by default!

You guys make things too complicated. All the system needs is a little tweaking. By no means do some slight problems with it mean it needs to be scrapped.

The loot system we have in place is perfect for TF imo, I agree with Uilea that a little twinking will make things go more smoothly. Like, if you've gone to an auction, you know how fast the auctioneers talk. They don't spend 1-2 minutes trying to get a higher bid, when they get all they can it's sold within 5 or 10 seconds. When you think about how we bid, how long does it take to type /gu 20? I'd like to see the "Going once" every time there's a short break, followed a few seconds later by "sold". It doesn't take a minute to type /gu 20, and if someone misses the bid because they're not paying attention, they really have no one to blame but themselves.

As far as the increments and starting bids go, that could be at the discretion of the loot officer. We all know what the nice items are and what's going to sell for a lot. Officer sees a very nice item drop, he starts the bidding at 30 or whatever. If the officer misjudges it and starts too high, then he can adjust it. On the same token, if the loot officer sees a bid dragging (21, 22, 23, 24 etc), he can call bid in 5's now. Or 10's or whatever. The loot officer knows whats going on, and it should be up to them to keep things moving. And if they don't, we can just post how annoying it was that loot took 20 mins again the next morning :jester

I pretty much agree with that.
Open bidding = good. Slow bidding = bad. If the loot officer played more of an auctioneer role I think this would solve the issue pretty well. I just see time limits ending in people spaming bids in the last few soconds and that being a mess =x

I can see that there are a million posts on this so my sway will be limited but some people need a lot of gear and have few points I would hate to spend 2/3 of my points in tells on an item that there was only one other 3 point bidder for. We work hard for out points avg 3ish per a raid it would suck to throw a couple raids worth of points away because someone is bored. Many times your bidding at the end of a raid anyway so go somewhere if your bored. If its in the middle of a raid just have patience. If everyone has patience then it will be as fair as possible for all. No Complaints Here.

closed bidding

Postby Lemme » Wed Jan 05, 2005 1:57 pm

Closed bidding wouldnt do that Conan. Atleast not the system I have had experience with.
Closed bidding system:
I bid 3 pts.
You bid 20 pts because you really want the item.
We are the only 2 bidders.
Outcome is that you win the item and spend 4 points on it.
In other words, highest bidder wins the item. Cost is the second highest bid plus one dkp.
I still think we can speed up the open system we do using some of the suggestions mentioned in this thread.

I understand where you're coming from Conan, my issue with bids taking so long is in the past, it's kept us from hitting targets that otherwise would have been killed. In the past it's happened a few times, but I'm looking more towards the future. Check out the beastiary for VT. I count 11 mobs with biddable loot, say each bid takes 20 minutes to finish, that's almost 4 hours of bidding. Add that on to what is already an extremely long raid, and people aren't gonna be very happy at the end. On the other hand, get bidding down to 5 mins per mob, and you're looking at under an hour, cutting 3 hours off the overall raid time.
